Mes recherches visent le suivi de la dynamique de la végétation forestière sur un continuum d’échelles spatiales allant de la parcelle à la région, en s’appuyant sur des séries temporelles de données de télédétection dans le domaine des longueurs d’onde du rayonnement solaire réfléchi (visible, proche et moyen infrarouge) et de résolutions spatiale et temporelle variées (de quelques mètres à 1km ; de 1 jour à 1 an). La production d’indicateurs spatio-temporels de la phénologie foliaire, de la santé, de la ressource et de la productivité des systèmes forestiers sous l’effet des itinéraires sylvicoles, des aléas biotiques et des contraintes de l’environnement physique (climat, sol, accidents climatiques comme les tempêtes ou les sécheresses) et ce dans le contexte du changement climatique actuel est visée.
Il s'agit à la fois de mettre au point et valider des méthodes innovantes d'interprétation et d’utilisation de données de télédétection, issues de capteurs satellitaires déjà mis sur orbite ou futurs, et de produire de nouvelles connaissances sur la réponse des écosystèmes forestiers face aux contraintes environnementales. La calibration et la validation de ces méthodes s'appuient notamment sur la mesure au sol des variations saisonnières de la surface foliaire verte (LAI) et de la fraction de rayonnement photosynthétiquement actif intercepté (FiPAR) des différentes strates de végétation forestière (arbres, sous-bois) avec des techniques de proxidétection.
Variations spatiales de la date de sortie des feuilles au printemps (en jours juliens) des forêts feuillues pyrénéennes estimée avec les données du capteur satellitaire VEGETATION. Estimation limitée aux pixels occupés à plus de 40% par des forêts feuillues.Les isocontours et les tons de gris indiquent l'altitude. (Guyon et al., Remote Sensing of Environment, 2011).
